Hands On Children's Museum
The Hands On Children’s Museum, founded in 1987, has grown to be the second largest youth museum in Washington State and the third largest in the Northwest. The mission of The Hands On Children’s Museum is to stimulate curiosity, creativity and learning through fun, interactive exhibits and programs for children, families and school groups.
Needs
Hands On Children's Museum needed to create a simple newsletter that could be sent to an ever-growing number of subscribers. Additionally, they needed the option of sending different newsletters to different groups.
Solution
SiteCrafting created a custom newsletter template for the Hands On Children's Museum that matched their redesigned website. HOCM users can add multiple mailing lists, as well as add and maintain subscribers.
Tools
The Hands On Children's Museum also uses these SiteCrafting tools:
- SiteCrafting CMS
- Calendar Module

Business Examiner
The Business Examiner is a publication dedicated exclusively to the South Sound Business Community. Its target audience includes local business owners, executives, and managers. Bi-weekly print editions are mailed directly to thousands of subscribers throughout the South Sound while daily breaking news is emailed.
Needs
The Business Examiner Daily (BE Daily) is an email newsletter that is delivered daily to local and regional subscribers. The Business Examiner needed a way to make the newsletter more interactive as well as to insure delivery was more reliable.
Solution
SiteCrafting rebuilt the mail distribution engine and not only added the ability to send out email newsletters more effectively, but also integrated three key areas, newsletter authoring and delivery, homepage content, and blogging. As a result, BE staff only need to author the articles in one spot, and it populates the homepage, gets added to the eNewsletter for delivery and allows posting and commenting via the Business Examiner Blog. Now that’s integration.
Tools
The Business Examiner communicates with the public via several SiteCrafting tools:
- SiteCrafting CMS
- Blogs
- Integration with Data Joe for News Archives/Subscriptions
- Online Subscriptions
- Direct Marketing via PURLs (Personal URLs)

Northwest Trek
Northwest Trek is a 723 acre wildlife park near Mt. Rainier, housing more than 200 animals of over 30 different species native to the Pacific Northwest. The 435-acre free-roaming area includes a 5-mile walking trail and a tram tour where visitors can see wild canines and cats, as well as other native creatures. The park is open year-round and features a discovery center where visitors can learn more about Washington’s habitats and the many animals that live there.
Needs
Northwest Trek needed a system to do two key things: 1) Distribute Press Release information to local and regional newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, and other media and 2) A system to deliver eNewsletters to members, users, and internal staff.
Solution
SiteCrafting developed two separate modules to integrate into the SiteCrafting CMS already running NW Trek’s website. The Press Release module housed a list of various media and allows Trek to send targeted press release info to various media lists. These news releases are able to be either embedded or attached to the message as it is delivered. NW Trek is able to update their media lists at any time using the web-based management tools.
Additionally, SiteCrafting was able to pull member and lead data out of NW Trek’s Raiser’s Edge software to deliver eNewsletters. This system allows Trek to manage members in one central spot and not have to reenter data whenever they want to send a member newsletter. That’s not all, the system also allow for standalone lists and newsletter delivery and tracking.
Tools
In addition to a custom newsletter, Northwest Trek uses other SiteCrafting tools:
- SiteCrafting CMS
- SiteCrafting Press Release Module
- SiteCrafting Calendar
"We wanted a way to touch base with our members more often than through our quarterly newspaper that gets mailed to them. SiteCrafting was able to build us a web interface (for an enewsletter) that’s so much like their content management system – it’s very easy to use since the commands are similar.
It also supports our green goals which include a dedication to conservation, education and recreation. We’re able to communicate with members and still support our dedication to conservation.
I’d recommend SiteCrafting's newsletter system to others especially if they are already using their content management system. It’s a very seamless transition to start using the newsletter module."
