It’s week eight of Washington’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy orders and drive-thru graduation parades, playlists reminiscent of the days we used to sit in rush hour traffic and (millions of) free potatoes are among the ways businesses and organizations are innovating through isolation and interruption.

You might have seen her name alongside the title “Best Chef 2020” in South Sound Magazine or maybe you’ve seen her cooking up delicious Filipino cuisine at local markets around town. Now, you can find Jan Parker online offering virtual cooking classes so you can get your lumpia fix at home.
Did you hear about yesterday’s spud-tacular showing at the Tacoma Dome? Excess supply caused by restaurant closures prompted Washington farmers to donate 200,000 pounds of potatoes to people in need. “Our farmers and their families recognize that they are not the only ones suffering financially, and they have the potatoes in their storage sheds that can feed so many.”
Break out the BBQ and get to grillin’. Asado wants to bring their surf and turf experience to your backyard. You’ll have the whole neighborhood wishing they were social distancing at your place as the smell of steak and prawns alongside fingerling potatoes and asparagus wafts through the air.
Good news. Your favorite neighborhood farmers market may be open or planning to open soon. Markets in Tacoma and Olympia are open with safety measures in place to ensure the health of visitors. The Downtown Puyallup farmers market has gone digital with an online store where you can order everything from Yakima grass-fed beef to fresh flowers.
Airplane banners. Drive-thru cap and gown pick ups. Balloons. Bubbles. Mascots. The teachers, parents and loved ones of the class of 2020 are making the most of a senior year cut short with some of the most touching and unique graduation celebrations we’ve ever seen. Our local credit unions are doing their part to care for the community. Tapco Credit Union is giving away restaurant gift cards to some of our favorite local gems and America’s Credit Union, launched a Mask Force to make PPE for community members to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The New York Public Library released a “Missing Sounds of New York” playlist filled with tracks like, “Romancing Rush Hour” and “For the Love of Noisy Neighbors.” We’re ready to partner with anyone who wants to come up with a Grit City version — you bring the sounds, we’ll come up with track names.
Take a break from foreboding headlines and questions of “what if” with this creative cover of “Under Pressure” by Jimmy Fallon, Brendon Urie and the Roots. We hope you’ll find it just as brilliant and entertaining as we do.
Looking for a way to mix up Happy Hour with your team? Our teammates (and their kiddos) loved this virtual scavenger hunt last week.
