Take a look around you. We are at the threshold of hell.” – Clark Griswold

A hot whiskey, also known as a hot toddy, is my favorite cold-weather cocktail. It’s simple, satisfying and pairs perfectly with all winter activities and occasions. Wrapping presents? Have a hot whiskey. Watching children ride bicycles in the bitter cold? Hot whiskey, please. Baking, cooking and baking some more? Make it a double.

Over the years, I have done extensive research. This is the recipe that never lets me down.

  • ¾ cup of water
  • 1 ½ ounces whiskey
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • Honey to taste

  • In a saucepan or teapot, bring water to a simmer. Pour the hot water into a mug.
  • Add the whiskey, lemon juice and honey. Stir until honey dissolves.
  • Let the hot whiskey wrap you in a warm hug.
